Issue 6: Oban Friday 12 May 2000

Fire crew survey the charred remains of the 1937 Alvis 4.3 Charlesworth Saloon of Stan Williams/Tony Davies, which caught fire about 20 miles before Oban on Thursday afternoon. The car was quickly ablaze and though fire extinguishers were to hand, it was not possible to contain the fire. The crew had been in line for a Silver Medal placing at the time of their enforced retirement, and were part of the Alvis Triangles Marque Team battling it out with the TR "Sidecreeners" for the Talisker Tophy. Both Stan and Tony reacted quickly enough to escape unharmed.

Already the rally has travelled many car miles between all the crews combined through spectacular scenery and undreamed-of sunny weather. Thoughts of Spain, Italy, Turkey abounded today as we left Skye and worked out way along the coast in Mediterranean weather. Here is a selection of pictures from Day Five, Talisker to Oban.
